New European Union (EU) customs reform entered into force on September 21, 2026, with implementation to be rolled out gradually. The reforms are intended to make customs more digital, data-driven, and responsive, including through stronger EU-wide risk management and enhanced cooperation with legitimate business/trusted traders, to address the growing challenges of international trade. The reforms aim to reduce the time and costs for traders to perform their customs operations and obtain customs clearance. They also modernize the Union Customs Code and establish the EU Customs Authority.
